I Have Fibromyalgia/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but it Doesn't Have Me!
Does the Guaifenesin Protocol Work?
"The Proof is in the Pudding"
I was just going to post a short 6 1/2 year + progress report to the, GuaiGroup, Dr. St. Amand's only official online forum fibromyalgia / guaifenesin protocol support group.
I woke up this morning thinking: "I am feeling well-rested and I am almost pain-free. If I hadn't tripped over that toy firetruck on Monday, and hurt my ankle and calf, I would practically be pain-free right now. Who would have thought that I am the same woman who was bedridden for almost a year and headed for a wheelchair in two years; had she not found guai?"
I was skeptical too, when I first started the protocol in August of 2003, but as they say, "The proof is in the pudding."
I had to try it to know for myself, and I had to give it three years before I really noticed a difference. I am a low-dose fast- responder which means that I cycle constantly. (Not everyone is like me. Some people experience pain-free days early on.) When Dr. St. Amand says it's not for the faint of heart; he means it.
Most people who say that guai doesn't work may have other conditions that mimic fibromyalgia, like Lyme's Disease or, they simply may not have followed it exactly as directed by Dr. St. Amand, Claudia, and the GuaiGroupAdmins.
It takes diligence, patience, and perseverance. Everything from the symptom journal, to titrating the guai dosage schedule, to remaining sal-free, to following the diet for hypogylcemia, if you need it; has to be followed exactly as written by Dr. St. Amand and preferably with support.
It's overwhelming at first, just like starting a new job, but then it becomes second- nature. I am so thankful that I began when I did. I don't ever want to go back to my fibro-fog-filled bedridden days!
